went running yesterday (saturday) morning - a slightly longer route than before - and passed a street marking setting up. a pleasure to run past something that is, i guess, common in chile, but pretty much dying out in the uk.

things are ugly on mefi. a surprising number of articles being posted to the front page about how europe is being over-run by muslims. and no-one cares that a journalist has been jailed for protecting her sources, but everyone is looking forwards to karl rove being prosecuted (because another journalist didn't protect their source). it's amazing how short-sighted people are.

signal posted this link to mefi. see also the wikipedia l-system entry. somehow, i think this ties into otuto.

somehow we want the pattern matching to recurse, with invocation in subthreads. this needs more thought. something good here.

(so no subroutines, but subthreads). and matching/recursion

read turing (a novel about computation) over the last couple of days (thanks mum + dad!). pretty good - better than i expected. classic, simple structure (love triangle resolved) with - ach, what's the word, teacherish? ensegnar, bleagh - whatever passages on computing. yes, it's kind of intrusive and overdone, but it's about as good as could be expected for a book that aims to do that. impressed.

[later] the word is didactic. it also has the best description of what it's like to die that i have ever read.
