Compiling Suse 10.2 Kernel with Nvidia

From: "andrew cooke" <andrew@...>

I can never find a decent, simple description of how to do this and since
they just pushed out a new kernel with a change to Nvidia drivers that
broke my old custom build, here's a quick summary:

- check kernel sources installed via Yast
- cd /usr/src
- check "linux" linked to correct version
- cd linux
- read README.SUSE
- make oldconfig
- make menuconfig
- change local General/Local version to "-custom"
- set Processor type and features
- pootle
- exit
- make
- make modules_install
- make install
- cd /boot/grub
- exmacs -nw menu.lts
- update-bootloader --refresh

rest assumes nvidia...
- look at hardware info in yast
- select installer from
  http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp
- cd /usr/share/doc/NVIDIA_GLX-1.0
- wget http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86_64/100.14.11/[..]
         NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-100.14.11-pkg2.run
- chmod +x NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-100.14.11-pkg2.run
- reboot to new kernel (text mode since no driver...)
  (note keyboard layout is default/US)
- cd /usr/share/doc/NVIDIA_GLX-1.0
- ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-100.14.11-pkg2.run
- select default answer to all questions (after accepting licence)
- init 3
- init 5
