Below I explain how to configure Suse 10.1 to use Ekiga (previous called Gnome Meeting). In theory, Ekiga allows VOIP with video and should inter-operate with other systems. So far I have managed to get VOIP working from one Linux machine to another, but not to Polycoms. I have not tried using a camera because I do not have one. I assume Ekiga will also run on other Linux distros; the firewall details below will probably be useful. Later this week will check for inter-operability with the Mac. Andrew Configuration Instructions: 1 - Configure your system according to this article - http://www.thejemreport.com/mambo/content/view/254 - paying particular attention to the "installation sources". 2 - Select Ekiga from the "Software Management" dialogue in Yast. 3 - Add the following to your firewall, if enabled (use the "Advanced" button): TCP 1720 30000:300010 UDP 5000:5016 5020:5023 IP 0 3 8 4 - Run Ekiga from the main menu (Internet/Phone) and follow the dialogues. I registered with ekiga.net as "acooke" (I think this means you can call me by name rather than machine address; it is optional).
