These make me wish I'd been born in a different plce, at a different time,
and considerably smarter.  Damn. 

  In general the newly sighted see the world as a dazzle of color-patches.
  They are pleased by the sensation of color, and learn quickly to name the
  colors, but the rest of seeing is tormentingly difficult.  Soon after his
  operation a patient "generally bumps into one of these colour patches and
  observes them to be substantial."

 For the newcomers to the lab, these passages must be a treasure-trove of
 clues about the development of vision.  But to the elders among us,
 accustomed to being born-again in a sightfull stupor at every

 such fleeting sensory stimuli are just another example of how our bodies
 can stay still while our minds explore the universe.  Today, we have a
 fine selection of the greatest american and imported beers, root beers,
 ginger beers and ciders.  Come sample in the 7th floor playroom at 5:30,
 and experience how substantial a color patch can be.
