Running Caldera's Hadoop Demo in VirtualBox

Coudera provide a VirtualBox image for playing with Hadoop. In theory you
just untar the download, start a new machien (Linux, RedHat) and attach the
disk they provide.

But if you've used VB at all you'll know that having the guest additions
installed is pretty crucial. Doing that is slightly non-trivial. You need
to:

 - Install the kernel devel and headers packages
 - Make sure that you are using the matching kernel (I managed to find myself
with two kernels installed, with slightly different versions, and the dev
and header packages didn't match what was booted, so be careful).
 - Define KERN_DIR to be the appropriate directory (somewhere under
   /usr/src/kernels).
 - Install gcc (missing from the image!)
 - Run the guest installer
 - Reboot
